It was only today that I was curious enough to search for what ever happened to one of my favourite whacky teen years comediens.
Kenny died in 1995, of what is politically correctly termed, HIV related illnesses. Kenny remains in my mind one of the boldest most adventurous convention breakers in the stand-up commody world. His houmour was wild and he would cross any border in pursuit of the ultimate joke. The words creative, inventive, and irreverent come to mind when thinking of him. This made him some enemies, but many fans and friends.
I had not realised that he was no longer in this world. Sounds strange after 15 years, but such are show-biz careers - stars shine and wane. Kenny was too bright to just fade away, but as the memory dims, it needs a spark to re-light the path. And so it was that i suddenly realised i had not heard of kenny in a long time - perhaps he had turned square and become a millionair property developer, I thought.
The wide spread assumption is that Kenny, I only ever saw him through a television tube, but he seemd so immediate, contracted HIV from Freddy Mercury's (lead singer band Queen)(deceased) partner. Jim Hutton died of cancer early in 2010.
Death before time most often brings me to one thought - if you dont know theres going to be a tomorrow, live for today. Which brings me inevitably to my next thought - one cannot live recklessly for today without regard for tomorrow, you might not be here any longer but your actions have consequences for other people. There must be a moral code to guide us through our wildest of thoughts. 'do as you would be done by' does not catch it, because if you dont care what happens to yourself, you wont care about other people. This is a question, how do we elevate ourselves into treating other with respect, even in our most desperate times?
If the law of the jungle pervades, when someone steals then we go and steal in back, or take it in turn from someone less fortunate.
Perhaps the answer is to treat others at all times in the same way as we would like our close family to be treated, we would not like to see our mother or brother wronged, so we should not wrong others peoples mothers or brothers, and therefore also not strangers. Respect.
